Approved Alpha players can create a private room, configure the match and invite other approved commanders. Because Astrail runs in the browser, nobody needs to install a separate game client before sitting down.
The match itself is designed to create conversation. Production is public, resources are limited, and the table can negotiate direct trades. A strong position still needs the right timing and the willingness of another player to make a deal.

THE CURRENT ALPHA USES APPROVED ACCESS.
Astrail is free during the current Alpha, but it is not yet an instant no-account party link. Each player needs an approved account so progress, moderation and multiplayer integrity remain connected to a real commander profile.
If your friends need immediate access tonight, an established platform may be the better choice. If they are happy to join a developing game together, Astrail offers a more direct relationship with the roadmap.

What is a good online board game for four friends?+
For a social resource strategy game, Astrail supports up to four players in the current Alpha. Colonist and official CATAN platforms suit groups wanting a familiar ruleset, while Board Game Arena offers a much broader catalogue.
Can we play Astrail in a private room?+
Yes. Approved Alpha players can create private rooms and bring other approved players into the match.
Does everyone need to download Astrail?+
No. Astrail runs in a supported desktop browser. Each player still needs an approved account during the current Alpha.
Can a new player practise first?+
Yes. Astrail includes guided training and matches against synthetic fleets so a new commander can learn before joining friends.
